The role of the young generation in the restoration of peace was discussed today in a workshop organized by the Center for Development and Governance (CDG) held at Elilly International Hotel today (August 16, 2025). Participants of the discussion are the youth active in the Social Media coverage with their own preferences having accounts for the type of media outlet and most of them already engaged in the advocacy activities organized by the CDG.

The Moderator of the Program, Obbo Bosona Dheressaa welcomed the youth participants to workshop and introduced program of the day which he said presentation by Obbo Mitiku Duressa, screening of video footages on the victims’ accounts in the absence of peace and discussion among them. After the program introduction, Obbo Bosona Dheressaa invited Obbo Amanuel Adnew, Executive Director of the CDG to welcome the youth participants and make an opening remark.

Obbo Amanuel Adnew, Executive Director of the CDG, welcomed the youth and reminded them that they are aware more of the activities undertaken by the CDG by virtue of their working together under similar issues in the past. He further said that the issue of peace is key for respect for Human Rights; application of Rule of Law; and ensuring Good Governance which demands advocacy from the young generation using the Social Media they follow. Obbo Amanuel Adnew indicated that the footages to be screened depict the reality on the ground that would create the urge to contribute to the restoration of peace by all nationals and more so by the youth.

Obbo Mitiku Duressa then made presentation on details of the program which he said was to just present the issues to the attention of the youth to use it as a start up to prepare agenda items on the expected actual activities. As a background he cited related activities the CDG implemented in the past including those in which the youth participated. In this program too, the youth shall make their contribution in the restoration of peace so human rights would be respected, Rule of Law applied, and good governance ensured.
