Elders’ Role in Restoration of Peace Discussed

The role of the elderly was discussed today in a workshop organized by the Center for Development and Governance (CDG) held at Elilly International Hotel today (August 20, 2025). It was a workshop organized under a project titled, “Enhancing Multi-stakeholder Engagement to Address Governance Issues in Oromia” as funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the Donor Partner.

The workshop was opened by Obbo Amanuel Adnew, Executive Director of the CDG who welcomed the participants to the workshop. Obbo Amanuel Adnew briefed the essence of the workshop which was organized to discuss issues of Peace, Human Rights, Rule of Law and Good Governance. He said peace would be restored when these issues are addressed appropriately involving all concerned among who are the elderly, respected segment of the society able to exert pressure to sensitize the issues given their influence in the society.

Following the address by Obbo Amanuel Adnew, PowerPoint presentation was made on the identified issues (Peace, Human Rights, Rule of Law and Good Governance) with reference to the Role of the Elderly in the restoration of peace and social cohesion.

After the presentation, video footages were screened on victims’ accounts collected from different parts of Oromia who were affected by lack of peace.  Finally, the participants aired their opinions on the need for restoration of peace in which the elderly are expected to play their significant role in the process.
