RECAP Project inauguration and inception training conducted in Moyale Kenya

The project identified as “Advancing Climate Adaptation, Peace, Livelihoods, and Preparedness in Cross-Border Communities of Ethiopia and Kenya” (RECAP) was launched in Moyale, Kenya on March 25, 2026. Representatives of implementing partners, relevant government offices of Mersabit County and two sub Counties (Moyale and Sololo) from Kenya and government representative from Moyale and Miyo districts of Ethiopia participated in the inauguration. During the session overview of the project was presented by the RECAP project lead and VSO -Ethiopia country representative. Discussion was held on implementation project objectives, approaches and collaboration. At the end of the inauguration session the participants expressed their commitment to the successful implementation of the project during the plan.
The Project is an extension phase of the first one identified as “Integrating Peace Building Development and Humanitarian Efforts/IPDHE” implemented from May 1, 2022 to November 30, 2025. It is a cross border project that focused on resiliency coupled with harmonious relationship of communities which encompass resource management and utilization, peace-building in border areas of the two countries.

The current project, RECAP, is aimed at enhancing climate adaptation, water resource and natural resource management within cross border communities and governance systems. It also strives to improve livelihoods of agro-pastoralists, pastoralists and small businesses holders through green entrepreneurship support, and stronger cross-border market and coordination system.
The focus would be to work towards achieving greater social cohesion and peace among cross-border communities through strengthened capacities of cross border communities and conflict resolution mechanisms. The planned activities are meant to address crisis preparedness and response through improved risk monitoring and anticipatory action within and between cross-border communities.

The five day inception training (March 26-30, 2026) was conducted involving partners and the beneficiary community members. It was attended by all project teams – the lead organization VSO, and implementing partners, CDG from Ethiopia and HODI from Kenyan.
The training provided clear view of the project objectives, implementing methods, required efforts and standards, monitoring and other project implementation issues. It really helped all team members gain common understanding and be on the same page. The training was successfully adjourned on March 30, 2026.
