Community Project Visit Conducted at Arsi Negle Town

CDCB had been implementing a project entitled “Engaging youth as peace actors in Oromia” with support from USID/OTI in Shashamane, Arsi Negle and Batu town administrations since December 2020. The objective of the project as the title explains is to promote peace using youth power in their own town. Accordingly, volunteer youth catalysts were recruited, trained and deployed for the lastly three months in the three towns. The intent was to capacitate volunteer youth through training so that they would promote peace in their towns using different strategies like peace activism by organizing youth networks on telegram platform, identify and implement innovative projects which could be used as a tool of promoting peace within community. Consequently, the deployed youth catalysts had performed remarkable jobs by using limited financial, technical and capacity building supports from CDCB.

Therefore, CDCB has organized a team comprising local government officials, community representatives, USAID focal person and CDCB team to visit community projects implemented by volunteer youth catalysts in Arsi Negelle on May 8, 2021. Accordingly, the community visit team has attended a half day meeting to assess the project’s accomplishment at Fasika International Hotel hall. During this meeting, the team has heard reports presented by the volunteers, discussed on challenges encountered and way forward of the project. Following the meeting all participants including the volunteers have visited works undertaken Dadacha Arara Kiltu Ree. This is a place where the society elders and Hada Sinkes had been reconciling people and resolve in conflicts, but it was forgotten. This place was fenced by the volunteers, seats for elders, hada sinkes and a place where the quarreled once stay has been constructed. According to the design, prepared by the volunteers it will be developed to park as tourism attraction where many visits as well.
